1.0 Dong Quai (Angelica sinensis, female ginseng)
Dong quai is an herbal plant that has been used for more than a thousand years as a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The root of the plant (rhizomes) are used to make medicine in the form of fresh ground root, dry powder or supplement in capsule form, tincture, essential oil and, when administered in hospital/clinic injection form. The essential oil from should not be ingested. Dong quai contains compounds that reduce pain, open blood vessels, stimulate and relax muscles.
- Do not use on cats even for short periods of time.
- Prolonged use for dogs is not recommended, for short term use only.

- Do not use two weeks prior to surgery as this herb can slow blood clotting;
- Dont use if your dog is at risk of forming a blood clot.
- Dont use on dogs that have chronic diarrhea.
4.0 Side Effects
- Limit your dogs exposure to the sun while he/she is on dong quai as the herb may make your dog more sensitive to sunlight - possible causing skin inflammation and rashes.
5.0 Drug Interactions
- Anticoagualant, antiplatelet drugs.
